At the last minute Stephen Harper has cancelled his trip to a European conference on climate change at Helsinki. Many European leaders are miffed at his decision not to attend. It would seem Harper bowed out because he wanted to avoid criticism for his government’s killing of the Kyoto Accord. Instead the Harper policy is to forget about green house gases and concentrate on the minor issue of smog?
Shouldn’t Harper have the guts to go to the Helsinki conference and explain his policies? It’s not too late for him to change his mind. Especially now that a new poll shows that the chief concern of Canadians is the environment.
