An editorial in today’s Globe points out that the demotion of Archishop Wielgus might be an overaction to something that happened three decades ago, that others reacted the same way as the Archbishop and that the pressure from the regime to collaborate was intense.

Had the Archbishop not lied about his past as an informant, the affair might have turned out differently.  Still the Globe concludes the Vatican did the right thing inasking the Archbishop to resign.

The Pope should give the kiss-off to the following because they knew something about Wielgus’ actions or they were just plain stupid and have to go anyway:-
    Archbishop Kowalczyk – papal nuncio
Cardinal Ra – Second in command to the pope (so to speak).
    Cardinal Glemp – Wielgus’ predecessor
