For all practical purposes, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois has thrown his hat into the presidential race for 2008. Commentators feel this will be a titanic race with muscle (organization and money) on Hilary C linton’s side and charisma and freshness with Obama. As one Democratic strategist put it, « Senator Obama’s got the magic, but Hilary Clinton’ got the muscle »
Obama has little expereince; Clinton has a lot of baggage. At the moment Clinton is ahead in the poles but Obama has just started to fight. Do you think, come 2008, there is any chance the American voter will elect a 45 year old black man their president?

Yes, Neil, poor Kim Campbell was the sacrificial lamb the PCs put up in the midst of the Mulroney scandal. She never had as much political clout as Nancy Pelosi or Hillary Rodham Clinton. How long was she allowed to be PM?

The US has come a long way and still has far to go. Canada did not have to recover from a terrible history of slavery, though.
Plus – Jeanne Sauve was Speaker and then later Governor-General – (the last two of whom have also been very talented women including one of Chinese birth).
Those are excellent examples — however, neither was voted in. The original question was would the US elect a black man.

No one is disputing the abilities of Sen. Obama or anyone else mentioned on this website. I think you misinterpreted. The question suggested that the people in the USA might be too racist to elect him president. I would hope to think that is not the case.
