IS OBAMA THE REAL PRO-LIFE CANDIDATE?

Obama is-pro choice. So how in the world can he be the pro- life candidate in the American election? Easy. Most of the data now show that the pro-choice approach is more effective at achieving what the American public views as pro-life goals: reducing the number of abortions, preventing late term abortion, than the pro-life approach,

In some ways the key problem here is not killing developing babies but preventing unwanted pregnancies. The pro-choice movement and pro-choice politicians like Obama are the ones who champion wider access to birth control, and birth control is one of the only ways to reduce unintended pregnancy and abortion. (The Catholic church forbids all use of artificial birth control).

Obama will remind the voters that it’s the pro-choice movement and pro-choice elected officials who have fought for health insurance coverage for contraception as well as to bring new and more effective contraceptives to market.

So what about abstinence pushed by the pro-life forces? In a word, it doesn’t work. Obama supports the comprehensive sex-ed programs that have been proven to work. McCain supports no sex-until-marriage-programs which ave been proven to fail. (Cardinal Martini is one of the few Catholic leaders who wants the Church to recognize the fact that the majority of younger people are sleeping together, many with the consent of their parents.)

Obama could remind the voters that only 11 per cent of sexually active women don’t use contraception and from this 11 per cent comes 50 per cent of the nation’s abortions. It is in that context that pro-life groups have been spearheading campaigns to prevent Americans from accessing birth control.

The right to life approach, which McCain has pushed for decades, is actually at the root of the problem: leading to more abortions.

Obama supports policies that will reduce abortions. McCain supports policies that will increase them.

Is there any doubt about who is the real pro-life candidate in this election?

Of course it is… it’s so obvious that I have to wonder what the pro-lifers who DON’T support contraception are thinking!!

“Obama supports policies that will reduce abortions. McCain supports policies that will increase them.”

Yup… but that doesn’t really matter to the pro-lifer’s who don’t support contraception. I don’t really know what they want – but fewer abortions CANNOT be that important to them, it simply can’t!

“Is there any doubt about who is the real pro-life candidate in this election?”

    Not in my mind…

    Paul Costopoulos Says:

Neil and Joe, you are right about Obama. You have logical reasonning and conclusions. However, with dogmatic pro-choicers as with dogmatic pro-lifers logic has no place in the debate. The operative word here is “dogmatic”. When you defend a dogma you can’t compromise since a dogma, for true believers, is absolute revealed truth.
Let’s hope logic and Obama will prevail…even if he wobbles on NAFTA.

    Pro-life means pro-“right-to-life”.

Obama is the most anti-unborn presidential candidate ever. He even voted against the Born-Alive Protection act. That means he would not make it a criminal offense to let a baby born alive die!

    Joe Agnost Says:

But what about the abvious relationship between anti-contraception and more abortions SUZANNE?

I know you’re a rabid ANTI-contraception girl and also pro-life… care to discuss this dichotomy?

Do you deny that your stance on contraception INCREASES the number of abortions per year?

    Good morrow, all!
It is most passing strange. The “pro-life” crowd bleats and blathers about the rights of the unborn child. Once an unwanted or insupportable child is born, where are that crowd then? Silent and unavailable. Their work is done, time to move on. In for a penny…out for a farthing.
If life begins at conception, as they contend, then that crowd should be there for the child until that child reaches independent adulthood. Does that ever happen?
Whose child is it? Whose life is it? Whose business is it? Need I say more? Does that make sense? CTZen

    Chimera Says:

    “Pro-life means pro-‘right-to-life’.”

However, it does not mean that the woman who is unwilling to remain pregnant has any rights. According to the anti-choicers, the woman just has to shut up and let her body be used against her wishes.

“Anti-unborn” is one of the stupidest terms I’ve come across. You cannot be “anti-” something that does not yet exist. The term “anti-choice” is perfect, though.

Joe, she won’t discuss it with anyone. She cares not at all about women; their lives do not matter. They are useful for only one thing: childbirth. A traitor to her species, according to what I hear from other women.

    Cece Says:

I am sick and tired of hearing young women get insulted!! I am a normal healthy 18 year old! Somehow I managed to not have sex. Young people are not animals we don’t go into season. We are old enough to know what we are about and the idea that we have to be taught how to protect our self’s because we can’t stop is bogus. Pro-choice classes all assume that we will have sex at a young age there is just no way around it. Pro-life classes at least give you the benefit of the doubt that maybe you can control yourself well enough not to end up in bed.

Obama is not a pro-life candidate he’s not that’s just all there is to it. He voted in favor of the pro-choice agenda to many times. Yes to some extent his methods might reduce what most consider the typical abortion. But all hes really doing is supporting Chemical abortions of life at its earliest stages.

    DEAR CORNELIUS;

    Good morrow, all!
It is most passing strange. The “pro-life” crowd bleats and blathers about the rights of the unborn child. Once an unwanted or insupportable child is born, where are that crowd then?

MOST LIKELY YOU ARE REPEATING WHAT SO MANY PRO-ABORTIONS RANT….MANY PRO-LIFE PEOPLE GO BEYOND THE DISTANCE, WITH HELPING OUT IN ANYWAY THEY CAN, THERE ARE SO MANY PRO-LIFE RESOURCES WITH PEOPLE OUT THERE TO HELP THOSE WHO DECIDE TO GIVE LIFE. FROM MEDICAL EXPENSES, ROOM AND BOARD, CLOTHING, MONEY FOR THERE CHILDREN. YOU HAVE TO BE BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE PRO-LIFE PEOPLE,TO SEE WHAT THEY DO, THEY ARE SOOOO DEDICATED TO SAVING LIVES, BORN AND UNBORN. bUT TELL ME, HOW MANY OF YOU WHO ARE PRO-ABORTION ARE THERE TO HELP THIS WOMEN AFTER THEY ABORT THEIR BABIES, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ARE TORMENTED BY THEIR DECISION, MAYBE YEARS LATER?

Silent and unavailable. Their work is done, time to move on. In for a penny…out for a farthing.

HOW CRUDE, WE SHOULD TRY AND BE MORE CHARITABLE IN OUR SPEECH EVEN PRO-LIFERS!

If life begins at conception, as they contend, then that crowd should be there for the child until that child reaches independent adulthood. Does that ever happen?

    Whose child is it?

WELL, THE LAST I HEARD IT IS GOD’S CHILD, HE WANTED AND ORDAINED FOR THAT CHILD TO COME INTO THIS WORLD AND HE CHOOSED THAT PARTICULAR WOMEN TO BE THIS CHILD’S MOTHER, GOD ALWAYS BRINGS GOOD OUT OF OUR BAD CHOICES, LIKE HAVING SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE.

    Whose life is it?

IT’S THE BABIES LIFE AND HAS EVERY RIGHT AS YOU TO BE BORN!

    Whose business is it?

EVERYONES’ BUSINESS, BECAUSE EVERYONE’S CHOICES IN LIFE, MINE AND YOURS HAVE AN EVERLASTING EFFECT ON OURSELVES, OTHERS AND THE WORLD. MAYBE NOT RIGHT AWAY, BUT EVENTUALLY, BECAUSE THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES GOOD AND BAD WITH ANY DECISION

Need I say more? Does that make sense?

NO, BECAUSE YOU NEED TO EDUCATE YOURSELF ON BOTH POSITIONS. IT’S EITHER A LIFE OR IT’S NOT AND BIOLOGY TELLS US LIFE BEGINS FROM THE MOMENT OF CONCEPTION, IN FACT THAT’S HOW YOU AND I BEGAN AND HOW GLAD WE SHOULD BE THAT OUR MOTHER’S GAVE US LIFE! MAY GOD BLESS AND SOFTEN YOUR HARDEN HEART.
